THE RETURN OF SUICIDE ATTACKS TO RUSSIA
Terrorism returned to Moscow on 19 March, with suicide bombings that killed 40 people. What’s the story behind the attacks, and how are recent events connected with the ongoing insurgencies in the North Caucasus? Dr Cerwyn Moore will attempt to answer these questions, while offering an overview of the radicalisation of the former Chechen separatist movement.
Dr Cerwyn Moore is a lecturer in International Relations at the University of Birmingham. His monograph, Contemporary Violence: Post-Modern War in Kosovo and Chechnya (Manchester: MUP, 2010) will be published later this year.
