Ellie B. Hearne

Ellie B. Hearne is a freelance writer and editor, currently based in London. Prior to her return to the UK, she spent more than three years at the International Peace Institute in Manhattan, where she worked on the think tank’s publishing operation, took part in various special projects, and continued her years of research on terrorism and counterterrorism.

More recently, as a 2011 Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses in New Delhi, she completed an independent research project examining the suitability of de-radicalisation and counter-radicalisation measures for inclusion in India's internal security apparatus. Her findings will be published in the Routledge journal Strategic Analysis early in 2012.

Ellie has published dozens of articles and papers on a range of international issues, and writes regularly for various outlets. She earned her MA in International Relations, with first class honours, from the University of St Andrews, where she completed her dissertation on the topic 'Terrorism, Justification, and Legitimacy: A Case Study of the Provisional IRA'.
